Director of Mass Spectrometry, Boston Area Biotech Startup, MA, Position 435

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Client seeks an outstanding scientist and manager to collaborate in research projects involving both proteomics and small molecule quantification (DMPK related).  Begin the position as the “mass spec – analytical chemistry department” and grow with the company, eventually leading a team of scientists.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D., (or other degree with commensurate experience), in biology, biochemistry, analytical chemistry or a related life science discipline and 3-10 years of academic and/or industrial research experience in both small and large molecule separations and bioanalytical chemistry of small and large molecules – quantitative and qualitative.  The successful candidate will have an understanding of the drug discovery and development process.  The successful candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of small and large molecule mass spectrometry techniques.  Specific techniques needed:  small molecule bioanalytical measurement using separations and mass spectrometry.  Small molecule sample extraction techniques including protein ppt, LLE, SPE.  Understanding of proteomics techniques including PTM elucidation and protein sequencing using manual and automated techniques.  Operation of MALDI-TOF and Triple Quadrupole mass spectrometers.  Understanding of protein biochemistry.  Strong written and oral communications skills are essential.
